In an effort to keep sailors and parents (very welcome to join) engaged in sailing, VIODA is going to set up a Virtual Sailing race session on Wednesday evenings.
VIODA will be using the
https://www.virtualregatta.com/en/inshore-game/ which can be used on phones, tablets or Laptops.
How do you get involved?
1. create an account on
https://www.virtualregatta.com/en/inshore-game. 2. If you haven’t played the game before, there is a sailing school which will take you through the maneuvers
3. Racing will be on Wednesday evenings at 5:30 (so best to sign in at 5:28 or so).
4. To enter a VIODA race, Click the custom race on the left hand side, click Join, then click VIODA and use the password VIODA (which is all in cap’s)
Each race is approximately 8 minutes long and we will aim to do 3 back to back which should have you finished in time for dinner at 6:00.

• To help coordinate the race times etc, we encourage you to join the Whatsapp group

• We give roughly a 2 minute window between races to join and after that, once in sequence, only players entered can race in that race
• If you are new and a bit nervous, you can watch the first few races (Go to Custom Race, Click the Camera Icon and click the VIODA Race)
Overall, from a coaches point of view, I think this game is a great way for young sailors to look at the Helicopter or big picture in there racing management which is so important for their development.
While there is no replacement for being on the water, this is a great opportunity to understand the fleet tactics and different wind-shifts without having to put such a focus on boat handling which is normally vice-versa on the water.
